CLUB SPECIAL REGATTA  26 JULY 08

            Another warm, humid and windy day at the park. The winds started slowly at 10am and built through the day. Perfect conditions to try all levels of wind. By 3 pm the winds were excessive and time for the IOM#55 to switch to #2 rig, but we had left the water by then. Ron brought his two US12s, but even from the start they were out run by the stars of Bob and Rich. During the previous week the stars received much repair and improvement. Bob’s star got a winch transfusion of an RMG muscle as well as detail modifications. The results were remarkable. His boat is finally race ready. Rich’s antique Blackwell was repaired  and ran well until Rich tried to duck behind Bob, but fell short by three inches and was demasted. Several faults were found and will be repaired, however a brain transplant is not to be attempted.

    Dick Laffargue brought his MIOMI IOM and switched between it and Ron’s US12. I may have screwed up the skipper assignments, but so what, we all had a great time, The steady winds helped us all make  good starts so that the first upwind tack was closely contested. Pete worked on his STAR all Friday and Saturday, and still did not finish the required work to get it revitalized so we can all hope to see him and others on the 2^nd of August for another try to wring out the stars for the nationals and for Housatonic on the 10^th. I am sure that the Housatonic club is preparing hard to withstand the attack of the Mansfield berserker stars……Rich
