CLUB SPECIAL REGATTA  2 August 08

            Who knows why a group of sailors show up one week and not another. While I noted that the sailing would be free, I also noted that the weather and winds might be iffy. So they came this day and it started warm and very humid with no wind. Shortly after our regular starting time of 11:30 the winds started to build.

     After lunch the winds actually came up to moderate and good, but with clouds to make the water surface the same color as our sails. That made sails hard to see against the grey water. We sailed well until about 2pm when some distant thunder gave us warning that the promised thundershowers would show up soon. So we packed up in plenty of time. Talked for a bit on the shore for a while and then everyone left. 

      Thanks everyone for joining us to practice racing. I think that most enjoyed the low pressure of no points racing. The important thing is to get your bullet. Get one and you have made the day. Greg had two, Herb had two, Ron had one, Fran had one. We ran out of time for the rest of us to get our bullet, but there will be other days.

   The competition between the IOMs and the STARs was a close affair with three bullets for IOMs and three for STARs. Pete Latournes showed up for the first time this season with an old star and a bag of problems. Greg broke his old star out and promptly found out why he put it away. Bob and I have finally have the problems sorted out of our STARs. Our skipper with their well sorted IOMs have no excuses. Jim and Herb have their STARs going well, and I think that they will do well in Mystic. I heard some intentions to sail next week at Housatonic, so we should have a good turn out to fight for second place behind John Arkenberg…..Rich
