IOM SIXTH FALL EVENT RESULTS –SATURDAY 7 OCTOBER – MANSFIELD HOLLOW SITE

    Bob Shluger wrote up the details of the regatta in my absence; thanks Bob.  Here I paraphrase his words; The wind started out at the peak limit of A rig and sometimes over a bit, and stayed that way for the first three races. It then remained at the mid to upper ranges of A rig the rest of the day. Only two sailors used B rig for a few races, then Ron switched back. When John Whalen switched back he competed with the lead. We got in 14 races and took a 20 minute lunch after the first four. Six boats competed, with no RD. Winds were from left to right with plenty of regular shifts to play with and change positions. Fran tallied the scores and gave out ribbons and was to deliver them to Rich for posting.

    Jake Leo took eight firsts!  Bob took three, and John Whalen had three firsts. Starts were very competitive, but typically the racing was among the first four boats with two trailing. The first three races showed how the wind can throw the boats into a plow downwind and make them very difficult to tack upwind. Thanks to Ron for the power boat and course setting.

I received a note from Greg Vasileff. He noted that he really missed racing with us, but that his son, Nick was active with cross country running at school with many of his meets on Saturdays. He remains busy with rebuilding his house, which seems never-ending. The work on the car has been on hold for a bit, but will restarted shortly….tough being a single parent with lots on one’s plate.

On another tack, I am now the Class News Editor for the Model Yachting magazine. The job entails collecting the reports of the class secretaries and putting them together ready to insertion into the magazine. Finally, congratulations to Jake Leo for organizing a super effort and taking the fall series for the IOMs. now the last race will determine the season second place between Ron, Bob, and Al.
