IOM FIRST FALL EVENT RESULTS –SATURDAY 29 JULY – MANSFIELD HOLLOW SITE
This Spring was filled with rain and now this Summer is filled with hot. Fortunately, cooling winds off the lake and shade from the pine tree made the racing quite comfortable. The level of concentration and intensity of sailboat racing is pretty high and does wear people down. I am always surprised to see how tough our competitors are, even in difficult conditions.
This clean sheet regatta gave people a chance to start out again mid season to work out their quest for the high ground. The winds Saturday were tricky. While they were just the right strength, the shifts were quick and did not last. Downwind streaks lasted only 50 ft and were very narrow. Truly, a day for the skipper with sensitive thumbs and a watchful eye on the shape of winds in the sails. We had a decent participation with only Al Dion suffering from mechanical woes; he had to withdraw from competition. The results are shown below and are exactly as Fran Gowash calculated them. Thanks to all for legible writing as RDs.
