IOM SECOND FALL EVENT RESULTS –SATURDAY 12 AUGUST – MANSFIELD HOLLOW SITE
It looks like the Summer fire is out and the fall embers enter the weather picture. The day was delightful. The wind forecast for Saturday was right from Tuesday on, that is, North winds, 5 to 10. For our site, North winds means that the winds come from behind us, up and around the trees at our backs. This does create an interesting windscape. The winds came in briskly from the left and right and met in the middle by the start line. Sometimes the winds coming over the top of the trees would blow down in the middle of the course, just to add more confusion. For those sailors who were able to take advantage of this wind flow, their boats moved about the course very smartly. The rest of us were slow to respond to the changing winds and were left behind.
John Whalen has been working hard to trim out his Todd Brown designed IOM. The boat performance has improved greatly since its introduction this season. Continued trim work by Dick Laffarque on his IOM has shown good results. I have finally won out over the history of leaks in my Ericca, by sealing the deck sheet pulleys with silicon. Dick L and Ron R both suffered mechanical problems and their boats were beached for the last three heats. Again Fran Gowash was perfect in calculating the scores. It is well known that if you are good at something, you get to do that job every time. The result are below:
