CLUB SPRING SERIES REGATTA FIVE 14JUNE 08
This regatta brought some good news to the club.
Dick Laffargue was able to repair his IOM and get it back on the water with no mishaps; and surprise of surprises, Greg Vasileff showed up
with BULLET, Charlie Rutan’s boat. Charlie was a major winner in our club and died a few years ago. Bullet was his steadfast mount, with which
Charlie was able to best most challengers. Greg had not participated in our racing program for some time, but somehow he felt compelled to
bring BULLET out of retirement to join in the fray once more. To complete the story, BULLET and Greg were able to sweep the dust off and put
in a convincing win. I am sure that Charlie would have been proud of this result. The rest of us
mere mortals just tried our best to make way in light winds and warm weather. It does take a special talent to One, retrim their boat for
light conditions and Two, be able to sense where the wind comes from in light conditions. I, for one, am “color blind” to sensing wind
direction. I have no idea where the wind is coming from. It does not make the telltails move; the water surface does not have ripples, the
sails do not fill. Ah, the mysteries of life.

NEXT REGATTA -
MANSFIELD HOLLOW SITE - 28 JUNE
WE have had five races now this season, with only IOMs to contend. Ron Rhault suggested that our club should spend some time concentrating on the STARs, since the nationals
are coming up in August in Mystic. We have three or four skippers with STARs who need the practice. So we agreed that for a while we should be
sailing the STARs along with the IOMs. So if you have a STAR show up next race on the 28th with your STAR to play with us. The big
STAR events are:
August 9th Housatonic
club Region One STAR Championship regatta at Hopbrook Park
August 23, 24 Mystic Seaport Nantional STAR Championship Regatta
