CLUB SPRING SERIES
REGATTA ONE 12 APR 2008
Ah, the smell of Spring! As usual the
weather forecasters screwed it up about as bad as possible. They said “ rain most of the day, mostly cloudy, mid 50’s temp with light winds.
What did we get? Clear blue skies, no rain, 65-70 temps, brisk winds from the SouthWest. Just about perfect for sailing. Ron Rhault, freshly
back from his sailing adventures in Florida, squeaked out first for the day over Bob Shluger by five points. There was plenty of thumb rust to
go around for all the competitors. Fran Gowash solidly held on to third place, while John Whalen, who slapped together his little wing after
the Minuteman club believed the weather forecasters and cancelled their Footy event, easily beat out Rich Ellis for fourth place.
Bob Shluger had a transmitter failure on
Friday and on various advice went to the hobby shop “Time Machine” in Manchester and bought a Spectrum DX6i, which has many improvements
over the earlier version. It no longer has the battery hungry voltage regulator and was able to
use drop in AA cells. It still is a challenge to program the device, but once set up it is the sweet way to control sailboats.

NEXT REGATTA
- MANSFIELD HOLLOW SITE -26 APRIL
I can’t imagine a better day for sailing than we had on the 12th, but perhaps our next event will be good enough. Bob Shluger ran our first event and did such a good job, he is locked in for the season.
Seriously, Bob set up various courses to keep us challenged and interested. He scored the event and even totaled up the results with no errors.
Way to go. Looking forward to seeing more competitors at our events. If you don’t have an IOM then bring what you have and sail with us for the
pleasure of it. Regards, Rich Ellis
