Buld Painting Techniques

Jake Leo

I have three systems to choose from;

1. Interlux makes a white Epoxy Barrier Coat that is a 2 part sprayable paint/primer made for boat finishing and bottoms. It's hard yet flexible enough to adhere well to lead without much prep. It can be sanded and burnished. Only color is white unless you want to tint it.

2.. Using West Epoxy with their graphite powder mixed is kind of like working with honey and very labor intensive. 2-3 coats are required with a lot of sanding needed between coatings. This will last forever provided you don't bend or drop the bulb. Great finish!

3. The quick and dirty method is to look for Plasti-Coat auto body sandable primer. It comes in black or white and is dispensed in spray cans. Found at Acme Auto and others and dries quickly so several coats can be applied in an afternoon. Easily repaired with a little spot putty dabbed on your finger, sanded with 220 grit, resprayed and you’re good to race.
